ABOUT YULETIDE
Gather Project
Venture. Employ. Gift.
Venture and gift profits to Jesus' work
Ventures come in all shapes and sizes. Some are lemonade stands others are lemonade factories. Big or small, for Gather Project's brand of social entrepreneurship we look for excess capacity, lever it up in the market place, count the earnings, and give away the cash.
Excess capacity is the folding table in your garage. It’ll be there for your next party. But in the meantime, what if you let some kids use it for their lemonade stand. When they make money, what if they gave it to a local shelter serving battered women. The shelter got more money because the lemonade stand didn’t rent or buy a table. Get it?
Sometimes there are costs and that’s okay. That’s part of any business. But sometimes there aren’t. So the gifts (earnings) are maximized. We give our gifts to folks behaving like Jesus. We favor those taking care of orphans and widows.
The Gather Foundation's latest venture is YULETIDE. It’s a Christmas music festival. Most people love music, food and Christmas cheer. So we sell tickets to an event where they can have some. We've asked the bands, vendors and suppliers to consider their excess capacity when naming their price. It helps when they like Gather’s gifting idea. Yuletide is at University Laundry’s headquarters, the Laundry, in Dallas, Texas. They have lots of space and a sweet coffee bar not always in use. They let us use it for free. In the case of Yuletide, we’re gifting the money to Compassion International. They minister to orphans around the world.
